Vosseler Shield
Houghton Bay
The new course in Houghton Bay debuted this year. Dry and fast conditions for this new course, which by and large has good feedback. The hill was quite a grind but became an opportunity for big speed on the way down! The less techincal terrain certainly accommodated more runners.
Trentham United runners bagged three victories, all in the juniors - Levi Mckevitt in Men U10, Taya Hines in Women U12, Matthew Meiklejohn in Men U16 and Madison Wos in Women U18. We also took three team victories in the junior races - the Men U10, Men U16, and Men U18.

University Cross Country Relays
Chocolate Walk
Mackays Crossing
Fantastic participation again, what an awesome turn out from TUH. I heard some comments from other clubs about how many blue and gold singlets out they saw.
Our club captain Stephen builds our teams based off his predictions of everyones time. It is a labourious job, but one that he is very talented at. Check out the block of TUH team results in the Vic Uni relay category. Only 3:40 separated all those teams! Incredible for predicting 32 different runners times.

Club Day & Mad Dash Relay
Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park
What a great turn out for our Mad Dash Relay! Mixed up teams with loads of confusion about who was running next, and a few glorious tumbles in the stream made for a super fun little hit out. Everyone looked to have the gates and flags down correctly so we're ready to rock for next week's Battle Hill relay. Please everyone sign up, including parents who are still on the fence about this running gig. It will be a great experience.

Faultline Ultra
Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park
For this years edition of the Faultline Ultra, we had three individuals, with newer member George Strickland placing 11th in 25km run in 2:18:02. What a fantastic run! In the 6km event James and Lachie Garland blasted around in sub-5 minute km's for 28:58.
In the miler, we had two teams competing - a clash of the young vs old. Max, Tom, Findlay and Isla took on the mighty veterans Jeremy Boyd, Phil B, Mark B and Stephen.
A very cold morning greeted the two teams at 5am in Queen Elizabeth Park. Max got the young guns off to a flyer, being the very first runner to arrive at the changeover at Hub 1. Jeremy B not too far behind with a great run too. In leg two Tom v Phil ended up being a bit of a mismatch with Tom putting big time into Phil. Mark B took off on a mission for leg three chasing down Findlay making up all the lost time setting up a stunning leg four finale of Isla vs Stephen, only 1 minute separating them. Stephen brought all his experience to bear but Isla held her nerve and ran a fantastic final leg to cross the line first, 10 minutes in front of Stephen. The two Trentham teams finished first and second in the Miler Teams event! Congratulations.
Here are their times:
Leg 1 (33km) traversed over the hills to finish at Tulsa Park: Max - 2:57:07; Jerry - 3:14:33.
Leg 2 (48km) went over Boulder Hill to Porirua finishing at Bishop Viard College: Tom - 5:04:02; Phil 5:45:14.
Leg 3 (48km) up Colonial Knob to the Skyline finishing at Makara Peak Car Park: Findlay - 5:53:52; Mark 4:56:05.
This put the teams 1 minute apart at the start of the final leg.
Leg 4 (32km) over Wrights Hill, Mt Albert and Mt Victoria finishing at Odlins Plaza: Isla - 3:30:45; Stephen 3:39:40.
Total times 17:25:24 and 17:35:32 - a very close finish over the distance.
Hugh Taylor was a very late ring in for his work team, called in to complete the Miler Leg 4. He raced round in a fast 3:13:27 gaining a place for his team too.

Mt Kaukau
The Wellington and NZ Mountain Running Championships continued last years brutal weather conditions. Last weeks Cyclone Vaianu ended up being rather mild in comparison with todays rain, lightning and wind! Even so, many brave souls from the club hit the course and should be very proud of their efforts.

It started with a climb up the 700+ steps to the top of Colonial Knob and included some tough technical downhill sections. The threatened bad weather from the cyclone held off giving a great day for running. Fantastic results from the TUH crew:

Stephen Mair - 2:41:20 14th overall, 7th M40-99 age group
Jared McKone - 2:50:54 29th overall, 16th M40-99 age group

In the 10km Fun Run:
Will Ashton - 38:23 3rd overall, 1st M13-18 age grade
Further South the NZ Half Marathon champs were held in Christchurch this year with four TUH crew racing. Some absolutely stonking fast times from them:

Tarawera Ultra Marathon
Rotorua
Bethany, Brian, Sarah and Stephen headed North for the high profile Tarawera Ultra Marathon event. All four performed spectacularly nailing their nutrition and pacing to claim fantastics times. Here is their combined write up:
Bethany, Brian, Sarah and Stephen travelled up to Rotorua to compete in the 102km distance at the Tarawera Ultra Trail event.
Torrential rain on the day before and during the race turned the trails into fast flowing streams, flooded the tracks around the lakes and created several inches of mud on the uphill and downhill sections making them treacherous.
It was a case of survival rather than racing!
Of the 938 starters 163 (17%) did not finish - double the previous year.
We all finished:
Brian 12:28:00 (4th in 45-49M Category)
Stephen 16:16:57 (5th in 60-64M Category)
Sarah 19:27:35 (21st in 40-44W Category)
Bethany 19:27:36 (41st in 20-34W Category)
Big thanks to Hugh and Pete for their support at the aid stations and finish.
Former TUH member Kerryn Stewart, now a Queenstown resident, completed her first miler (160km) in 34:32:42 (7th in 45-49W category). Cheered to the finish by her fellow TUH friends/supporters. An incredible achievement to be one of only 300 finishers from over 500 who started.
